In a posting Jul. 22, Charles Ward stated the following:
"William Cecil, the husband of Rebecca Buttram, was almost definitely
the son
of Benjamin Sollers Cecil and past accounts which described him as
settling
in Minnesota or Ohio are incorrrect.
William Cecil, son of Benjamin Sollers Cecil and Priscilla (Boydston)
Cecil
was born 20 Oct 1802, probably in Wayne Co., KY. He was married to
Rebecca
Buttram, probably about 1823/4.
(Note: William Cecil's older brother, James, married Polly Buttram in
Wayne
Co., KY.)
William Cecil is found in Morgan Co., TN in the County Court minutes
dated 20
Oct 1824, being listed with his brother, Benjamin Cecil, among
delinquent tax
payers.
He is found in Morgan Co., TN in the 1830 Census, but is not found in
the
1836 Tax List for that county.
He settled in Polk Co., Missouri where he is said to have died in
February,
1880."
Charles:
Numerous census records confirm that William and Rebecca settled and
died in Polk Co., ARKANSAS, not Missouri. Maybe yours posting was a
typo?
Also, was wondering, did the tax records you mentioned list William and
Benjamin as brothers?
Thanks, Karissa
