Subject: THANK YOU
Dear Melissa,
You were so kind to send me a long document about a year ago. I know
this is way beyond overdue.
I want to thank you so much for sending me "Ancestors of Elizabeth
Cissell", it was so rich in detail, so interesting.
I'm afraid I became rather embarrassed and confused because I felt I had
come into the wrong family. You see, in a nutshell, my ggg-grandmother
was ELIZABETH ANN CISSELL, and her father CHARLES CISSELL - the big
HOWEVER - Elizabeth's mother and Charles' wife was listed in my
documents as CATHERINE MCPHERSON. From my "History of Union County,
Kentucky" (the chapter on my ggg-grandfather Nelson Hamilton Aton),
listed his wife and her family as the above mentioned.
So when I saw REBECCA GEOGHEGAN as the wife and mother, I felt lost and
stupid. The birthdate of Charles was off about 20 years (my 1790
approx. and the info you sent Abt. 1808) (same for Elizabeth's
birthday), so though I searched pretty thouroughly ( in your document),
there seemed nowhere my Charles and Elizabeth belonged. This
long-delayed Thank You was also because I had to drop out of researching
for some time. I began again in the last few weeks, but have different
feelings now about the Cissells from Maryland (I originally got in from
reading about the MARYLAND LEAGUE OF 1785) .
I no longer feel I'm completely off the mark. The fact that 1) it's not
the most common name at that time in history, that fact that 2) there's
a Washington County in both neighboring Kentucky and Indiana (my
Charles' listed birth (origin), he settled in Union Cty. KY, 1820) and
that 3)) the Official migration date from Maryland was five years before
his birth , tell me that somehow, somewhere I do belong in the family.
I have even been nervy enough to have signed up for the big (Cissells as
well as other Maryland League families) July21-23, 2000 Reunion in
Leonardtown, MD. Are you going to attend? Have you already been to
others, I understand there have been (Cissell family) reunions before.
I will continue with my needle-in-a-haystack hunting. I hope you don't
mind if I write again, should I have any breakthroughs.
Now, that I can do it again, I find ancestor searching so like a
complex, yet suprising game.
Please let me know if there is anything at all I can do to someday
return the great favor.
Again, Thank You, Melissa.
