I am researching the Cecil/Cissell families of Kentucky, and think I have the family that
you are searching for. According to my 1880 Missouri Census CD:
Census Place: Madison, Clark, Missouri
Source: FHL Film 1254681 National Archives Film T9-0681 Page 156A

Occ: At Home Fa: KY Mo: VA
Berty M. CICIL Dau F S W 3 MO

Charles M. CICIL Son M S W 1 MO

Since Warren Cecil was 39 years old in 1880, then he must have been 9 years old in 1850.
I have every Cecil/Cissell in Kentucky's 1850 census and only one family had a Warren
M. Cecil, who is exactly the right age in the census. So I am sure he is the right one
you are searching for. That family was headed by Susan Cecil, apparently a widow, in
Hardin Co. Ky.

Going further back, the census only listed heads of households prior to 1850. However,
Susan Cecil is listed in 1840 as the head of household in Hardin Co.

Going further back to 1830, I find there are three Cecil households in Hardin Co. Two are
headed by Robert Cecil and Charles Cecil, both of whom are also listed in the 1840 Census.
The other, headed by Henry Cecil, has a female in her 30's who matches Susan Cecil
in the 1840 census. Apparently, Henry Cecil died between 1830 and 1840, and his wife
Susan took over as head of household.

As I am not descended from the Courtney family, I have not done any research upon
that family. However, that family, like the Cissell/Cecil family, is a Catholic family in
the central Kentucky area of that time. Hardin Co., Washington Co., Nelson Co., etc.
would be the place to search
