I envy you your travels and ability to check the records. One possible
angle is to track down the registry and ownership of this:
"John and family had a sailing vessel called the "Martha Constant" that
plied between Barbados Colony and the Maryland Colony, plus visits to Nevis,
Virgin Islands. Some of these sailings could have been made for the
transport of indentured servants. Barbados dated from 1627 with the
British, Maryland dated 1632 and Nevis dated from 1627-28 with the British."
If you ever have the chance-this ship and it's history may shed light.
Thanks again for sharing.

Melissa,
I have tried to do some work related to the John Cicill of Aughton Near
Selby,
Yorkshire over the last two years of so. My main interest continues to be
finding the birthplace or parents of the John Cecil who came to St. Mary's
County, MD in 1658. Yorkshire would not have been an unusually place for
him to have come from given the bithplaces of the Shirtciffs and others.
Still
no success yet though, but let me provide what information I have gathered
on this family grouping.
I spent 1 day in York and visited the Borthwick Institute of Historical
Research
there. It rained a bit, but I can recommend the pub across the street and
down a bit! Parish records there, in Ref PR.AUG.1, covering dates from
1610 to 1653 provided the following information from the parish register for
Aughton:
1627 Elizabeth Cicell, wife of John Cicell of Eastcottinwth buried 2 July.
1631 John Cicill sonne of John Cicill of Eastcottinwth baptised 19th
February.
1635 Francis Sissell dau: of John Sissell of Lanthom baptised 13th
September.
1635 Francis Sissell dau: of John Sissell of Lathom buried 28th September.
1636 John Cicill of Eastcottinwth buried 7th December.
1638 John Cicill sonne of John Cicill of Lathom baptised 28 October.
1640 Hugh Cicill sonne of John Cicill of Lathom baptised 8 November.
1644 Edward Sissill sonne of John Sissell buried 20 June.
It appears, then that there were two John Cicells born about this time. Did
either of them come to Maryland? Where were the families prior to 1627? [I
do not know.]
I spent a week last March at the Society of Genealogists (SOG) in London to
see if I could find any other information on these families. I checked
Hearth
tax and other records, but found nothing I could attribute to these people.
This does not mean they don't exist somewhere, just that I could not find
them!
I did attempt to extract as many references to Cissells as I could find at
the
SOG. I could type these up someday, but I don't know if anyone else is
really
working on things like this.
