Records consistently agree that they were born in MD and the bondsman at their 1812
Franklin Co. KY marriage was from St. Mary's Co. MD. I am seeking proof that Wilford
(aka Wilfred) Cecil was the son of Benedict Cecil of St. Mary's Co. MD.
Wilford's obit in the 22 Feb 1878 Camp Point (IL) Journal noted, at the time of his
death, he was 90 y/o and the father of 15 children, 96 grandchildren and 74 great
grandchildren. Most of these are outlined in a book, "CECIL Family in early Adams Co.
IL" which I submitted to the Quincy Library a few years ago. The ten children who
were living in Adams Co. in 1850 were Joseph Walter Cecil (b. 1813 KY), William Y. Cecil
(b. abt. 1817 KY), Andrew Martin Cecil (b. 1819 KY), Susan Mary Cecil Manlove (b. abt.
1820 KY), Theresa Cecil Cubbage (b. 10 May 1823 KY), Lutitia Cecil Fifield Turner (b. 1825
KY), Cecilia Cecil Nelson Phipps (b. 6 Jan 1829 KY), Catharine Cecil Seals (b. 4 Apr 1830
KY), my ancestor Barney Cecil (b. 29 Apr 1833 OH) and John Henry Cecil (b. 3 Sep 1835 IL).
Early Adams Co. IL land records indicate two other sons were Benedict Cecil (b. 1812 in
KY) and James Cecil (b. during the 1820s in KY).
Daughter Cecilia's obit stated she was "a member of a family of 14 children, all
of whom except two lived to be grown and raised families of their own". The obit of
youngest son, John Henry, noted that he was "one of a family of 13".
