Has anyone ever heard family tales of a land grant being given to a Cecil by King George III? This would probably have been during the 1760s or 1770s. My branch of the Cecil family is from Western Maryland, and I was told by my Great-Uncle that a land grant was given to our Cecil ancestor for land near Cresaptown, Maryland. He couldn't give me any more information than that, so I do not know the name of this ancestor. I have not been able to find any information that might clarify or support his statement. I have researched the time of King George III a little bit, and know that his land grants were only given to British subjects, and usually as a result of military service on this side of the pond during the Seven Years War. So, I'm wondering if my Cecil ancestor came over from Britain to fight in the Seven Years War (also known as the French & Indian War), was given a land grant as compensation, and decided to settle here?? If anyone has heard of this land grant iss!
