<<<<Note that his father John Wilkerson Cecil, married his first cousin,
Sarah Ann Butler Cecil, daughter of his brother Aaron Cecil.
Another of their brothers, James Harvey Cecil [ 1812- 1883] was my
husband'sgreat grand father>>>>>>
Sarah Ann Butler Cecil [Cecil] was the daughter of John Wilkerson's FATHER's
brother AARON, hence his first cousin.. Our James Harvey was indeed the
brother of John Wilkerson Cecil.
Thanks to Jim Thomas......
None of my Powells were in Maury County as far as I know. Also, I have
never found a Cecil descendant born in the twentieth century who is living
[or did live] in Mt. Pleasant.
[except my husband's half sister and brother] Sure would love to find
others..
Can you tell me anything more about the Annie Sue Cecil who would've
graduated HS there in 1951 [ born about 1933] or the Mr. Cecil who worked at
First National Bank there in the 1940s or so? Names, names of fathers.or
grandfathers would be very helpful.
My husband's father Arthur Cecil [ Orphaned at 6 and Raised by Tom and
Bettie Williams,he was known in Mt. Pleasant as "Dick Williams" --1886-1969]
left TN in abt 1924 with his first wife and two children for Central
Florida. Widowed , he married my mother in law in 1935, and my husband was
born to them in 1936, when "Dick" was 50. He was a pharmacist.
His three brothers and one sister had already left , for Texas, S. D. and
Cal.. The Cecils remaining in TN would have been his cousins and at least
one unmarried Aunt, Nellie W. Cecil. She died in 1939 at age 73. Lawrence
Cemetery.
Nellie [ and Arthurs father-- Samuel Shelby [1851-1892] had a sister Annie
Mary Cecil [1849-1901] who married Mumford Smith III.
Thanks also to W D Bostick[?] for the further info on him and the URL for
other Cecil family info.
And Patty, please clarify which John and Phillip you are referring
to....there are hundreds of these in the Cecil families and quite a few who
are brothers. The earliest ones--sons of William Sessell Cecil [1665-1749]
are ancestors of a great many Cecils in this country. William came to
Maryland from probably England but his parentage and history is still open
to speculation.
My husband descends from his son John and Elizabeth Sollers --and his
brother Phillip married Elizabeth Sprigg Gittings.
Give us more details. Your line has surely been researched by at least one
of the fine historians on this CECIL rootsweb list.
Thanks to you all.

'm not researching the Cecil family, but came across this on a website while doing search for my Loy family. Apparently there was a typo-error and "Long" was written as "Loy." Thought someone researching the Cecil family might be able to use this. I've already posted a similar notice to the Long board.

DEATH NOTICES FROM THE CHRISTIAN ADVOCATE, NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE By Jonathan Kennon Thompson Smith. Copyright, Jonathan K. T. Smith, 2000
May 22, 1875 (issue) (Page 48)
JOHN W. CECIL son J. W. and Sarah A. B. Cecil (now Mrs. Kendil), born Jan. 6, 1848; md Luzelle Loy, Dec. 8, 1870; died Greenwood, Florida, Apr. 18, 1875.
As I couldn't find a Luzelle Loy in 1870 census, before marriage to Cecil, I did a search in Ancestry census using just "Luzelle" and came up with Luzelle Long of Maury Co., TN. I found her in 1870 Maury Co. census where she was Laizelle Long and 1880 Maury Co. where she was Luzelle Cecil 30, a widow in household of widowed mother Mrs. S. M. Long. As "John" was too common a name, I didn't take time to check census to see where John W. Cecil was from, but imagine the same area. Hope this helps someone.

So very glad to hear from you about the Cecil Family. Already see that I had a name misspelled, but that was the information I had. Would be very happy to share information, but it sounds like you have a lot more to offer than I do. How do you want to share the information? email, regular mail, phone, etc.?

Francis Marion Cecil (11Nov 1848 d. 12 Mar 1940) was the son of William (20 Oct 1802 - 3 Feb 1880) & Rebecca Buttram Cecil (8 Jul 1808 - 18 Aug 1868).
Francis married Rhoda LEBOW, (19 Nov 1847-19 Nov 1934) daughter of Hiram Lebow (1821-10 Mar 1880) and Sarah Bledsoe Lebow (1822-death after 1860).
My information indicates Francis Cecil was a farmer and post master, nothing in records indicate he was a doctor.
Rhoda Ella Cecil Barnes listed herself as a widow on the 1920 census, living with her father, she died of cancer 28 Jan 1936.
Have information including obits, pictures, tombstone pictures, bible records, etc.of the Cecil family of Polk County, Arkansas, will gladly exchange info.
