If you are looking for Cissells who made the move from Maryland to Kentucky,
and earlier Maryland generations, here are some reference resources.
Nearly 90 pages on Maryland Cecil/cissels in Elise Greenup Jourdan's, "Early
Families of Southern Maryland," Vol l. (This is a l993 book, comrehensive
research) .
Peden's "Marylanders to kentucky" and "More Marylanders to Kentucky" has the
families that went to Kentucky, who they married and a generation or two of
information on them.

I am looking for any information available on my great-great-grandmother

appears in the 1860 Polk County Arkansas census showing her to be age

Hi - I am looking for information on my great-great-grandmother, Emeline
Cecil Reves. Emeline shows up in the Polk County Arkansas 1850 census
as
living with her mother, Margaret Cecil (listed as head of household) and
several brothers and sisters in Dallas, Arkansas.
If she was born about 1849 she is probably this one and her father
George had died and the other close Cecils went on to California.
She was probably the daughter of George Berry Cecil and Margaret who was
the son of Benjamin Sol. and Sarah Hatfield who was the son of Benjamin
Sollers and Priscilla

Kathie,
Let me try to address some of your questions as I'm connected to the
Cecil family you mention. I am descended from Samuel Cecil (b.1786) and his
second wife, Jane Chrisman (b.1788).
I have no knowledge of Nancy E. Alexander's ancestry. However, I
can state with confidence that Russell Cecil was NOT a full Cherokee.
Russell Cecil was the son of Samuel Cecil and Nancy E. Alexander and was the
grandson of Samuel and Jane (Chrisman) Cecil. Since I descend from Samuel
and Jane (Chrisman) Cecil, my research has focused on this couple.
A number of subscribers to the Cecil list are descended from Benjamin
Sollers Cecil and his wife, Priscilla. These are the parents of Samuel Cecil
(b.1786). They had no Cherokee ancestry nor any other Native American
ancestors. The ancestry of Benjamin Sollers Cecil is pretty well-known.
Although there is still some question as to Priscilla's lineage, any
intimation of Indian ancestry has never taken place.
Jane Chrisman's ancestry is likewise pretty well known. She was the
daughter of Isaac and Judy (Walling) Chrisman. There are traditions of
Indian ancestry among some descendants of the Walling family. Several
descendants of the Walling family made claims with the Cherokee Nation that
were rejected. Judy (Walling) Chrisman was the daughter of Thomas and Mary
(Cox) Walling. The ancestry of Mary Cox is known. The paternal ancestry of
Thomas Walling is known. The only unknown regarding Thomas Walling's
ancestry is that of his mother. It is possible she possessed some degree of
Native American ancestry.
So, if there is any possible way in which Russell Cecil could have
possessed Cherokee blood (through his father), it would have been in this
manner:
Elisha Walling (b.1708) m. lady whose identity is unknown, possibly with
Cherokee blood
Thomas Walling m. Mary Cox (b.1740)
Judy Walling (b.1768) m. Isaac Chrisman (1767-1838)
Jane Chrisman (b.1788) m. Samuel Cecil (b.1786)
Samuel Cecil m. Nancy E. Alexander
Russell Cecil
Some Walling/Wallen researchers have identified the wife of Elisha Walling
(b.1708) as Mary Blevins. However, no contemporary documents give her name
and it's very likely she has been confused with the wife of Elisah Walling,
Jr. "the Longhunter."

research in Mena and Cove and even discovered the Cecil family cemetery in
Vandervoort. There are lots of Cecils living in this part of Arkansas but I
wasn't able to make a family conncection with any of them although I bet one
exists somewhere. I hope to hear from you.

Just checking to see if I'm still a member. Computer on the blink for a week
& I lost lots of unbacked up data plus unread emails.
I packed up periodically onto floppies & a zip drive, but I lost a month.
Ugh. Picking up the pieces isn't easy.

Do you mean John Baptist Cissell? No, Mary (Kittydoc) has me thinking there
might have been two born in the same time frame, one son of Matthew (m to
Brewer) and one son of Thomas (m to Rebeccah) and maybe some of the children
are distributed differently.
Penny and I think my John was son of Thomas. But this is by inference.
Jeremiah could have been the son of either. ( b 1773.)
More research and some original documents need to be found in either MD or
KY. Got sidetracked on other lines so have not spent time on it lately.
Any thoughts?
