HI Barbara
I hope the weather has calmed down some for you. I
checked the Will,s for Saint Mary,s co and did not find
a will for Elizabeth Alvey Cissell. I did find William
Cissell and after reading can not see were he married
Elizabeth Bullock. In reading your e-mail Aug 9 1998 I
see why Linda Reno is not sure if William Cissell
married twice. I see reference to Sister Mary
Donnelley,s Book in your e-mail. I guess you noticed the
recent comments on her book,s. In a e-mail from Jerry
Clark Aug 27 1998 I could not have put it better. Her
book,s have helped me very much to put my family,s in a
place in a certin time frame. From there it is up to me
to do the rest. When I first started to research the
Bullock line I found in the will of Mary Bullock that
the Ex of her will was John Long of Jermiah. I could not
make the connection unless friend,s. After reading
Sister Donnelly,s book and a trip to area I saw were the
3rd district and 7th district meet. From St Francis
Xavier Church to the 7th district by water is not far at
all,. The Bullock,s lived mostly in the 3rd dist my
Long,s in the 7th dist. I only wish Sister Donnelly had
spent some time in Charles Co and southwest Wash.DC I be
in good shape. Well lets put this on the list and see if
someone has info on Elizabeth Bullock. Buy the way what
you have sent me on the Bullock,s I appreciate verry
much.
See Ya

Those items on John Baptist Cissell sent on Sept 3rd were great, but you sent them in a MIME format that left them very hard to read-could you send them out in a plain text format for the members of the list. I notice that you agree with me that the father of the John Baptist Cissell who married both Rebecca Unknown and Susannah Ann Brewer was the son of Thomas Cissell b 1714. Can you help me with the basis of this (it's just a theory on my part based on the naming pattern of the children)?
Also, I notice that for the children with Susannah you give birth dates that conform to those cited in O'Rourke-but he lists the parents as John Francis Cissell and Susan. Does this mean you believe that O'Rourke or the church records he cited mis-referenced this John Cissell? I also have a few for children if that is the case.

I checked my database. If your Thompson's and McGee's were Catholic, you could try to trace them from St. Mary's Co, MD via KY to IL. I have to McGee's in my data base:
Mary McGee m Raphael Thompson, b c 1790 d 7 Dec 1830 St. Mary's Co, MD
Eleanor McGee m James Cecil, 16 Nov 1801 St. Mary's Co, MD
I do not have any of these attached to parents, too many Raphael Thompson's and James Cecil's to be clear.

MelissaIf I have contacted you before, please forgive me but I had computer
trouble and lost all of my past correspondence. I was wondering which line
of the Thompson family you are researching? I am trying to find info on my
g grandfather / grandmother William & Bethinia McGee Thompson.
I'm not sure where they were born but they were the parents of 9 children
some of whom were Annie, Frank, Fred, "Willie" or William, Little Fred,
Rose, Betty Margaret and one other.William and Bethinia are buried in
Onstott Cemetery, Xenia, Illinois. I think that William died at a early
age and Bethinia took her 9 children in a covered wagon to her brother's in
Missouri returning at a later date to settle the estate. Annie married a
man by the name of Humphrey and Rose married a man by the name of Lampkin.
Fred My Grandfather, married Lucy Venis Mulvaney.
Any info that I can receive on this family will be greatly appreciated.

As many Cissell's as I have, I am amazed at the one's below that I do not know the parents. I do not know which John and Mary ? Cissell had Joseph, born 26 Sep 1772.
I do not know which John and Margaret ? Cissell had Sherick and Dorothy. I do not know which Baptist Cissell (Cecil) and Mary ? had Jane and Joanna, both baptized 15 Aug 1776., Nor the John and Eleanor who had Jane and Joanna baptized 1777, nor any of the rest of those that follows. Can anyone help me sort out these Cissells?
I do know from Lampkin, pg 465-466 the age of Susannah Ann Brewer who married John Baptist Cissell, in the inventory of leasholders of Lord Baltimore's Manor, Beaverdam, in 1768..

I agree with this. I have confirmed existence of a Susan Oxenbridge, but
never confirmed husband, children, etc. I don't think that John Cissell of
St. Mary's is their child--at least is not proven. Anything is possible.
Sorry...I have a hellacious cold right now and can't think too clearly!! Til

I have it that Susannah Thompson, daughter of Richard Thompson, was married to this John's son John. She was born c 1760. I do not have another wife beyond Henrietta for John the father. I do not know who was Richard's father nor do I have the name of his wife.

Moved this to the list for additional comment. Know you won't mind.
Both Donnelly and Jordan are fallible, it is just that neither they nor any one else has tied my ancestor John Baptist Cissell to a particular father, and even following the land does not lead me to believe that this particular John Baptist (among the numerous John's) was the son of Matthew.
Any other comments to our comment's below? Barbara? Penny?

Melissa:
I appreciate your concerns, however if you follow the Land Transfers thru
the years it seems this may very well prove out to be correct. It would
be nice if someone comes out of the woodwork and comfirms or proves otherwise.
You seem to believe Donnelly & Jordan should be held in high esteem, however
there are known errors therein (we are all known to have made errors).
Considering where we all were on this research several years ago, a
lot of progress has been made.
Yes there is room for lots of improvement on the situation. Wish we
knew who John Cecil/Cissell (b. 1737) was married to each time. Being married
to Rebecca (unknown) and then Ann (also unkown) is not really satisfaction at
all. I feel Marvin Thompson has done a fairly respectable job on this.
Was this John "The Baptist" Cecil really named John? or could he have been
named James? Do we know for sure? He supposedly is buried in 1798, St.
Charles cem. in Marion Co., KY, however have not sighted it myself. Do you
know whether anyone has been there?
Source that feel can be trusted is MD Catholics on the Frontier by Timothy
J. O'Rourke and he covers only some of this.
Matthew Cecil (b. c 1700 received his (50 acres of "White Acres") from his
father who received it from his father. This all by wills and seems fairly
clear.
As to the Susan Oxenbridge situation feel that perhaps is on more
shaky ground. Certainly would be nice to confirm this, however until
something more concrete comes along will continue to keep it this way.
Perhaps when we meet them in the next world we can find out. Sorry about
my inability to get further proof at this time. Sincerely hope you can find
further information involving these souls and when you do want to know what
it is. Not too optimistic at this time. Till later, Paul
================================================================
It seems no one has been able to
document Matthew (or anyone else) as the father of John Baptist Cissell, it
is all speculation, as is the birth date Marvin gives-and I just find it
highly unlikely, since John did not name a son Matthew until his 2nd
marriage. If we can find out the family of his first marriage, maybe they
have information to back it up-since none of the Cecil/Cissell researcher's
(including Donnelly and Jordan) have been able to find solid information.
>2nd. The tie in to Thomas Cecil (and Susan Oxenbridge) to the immigrant
John Cecil/Cissell is still speculative and does not have documentation-as
does the tie in of this Thomas Cecil to Sir Thomas Cecil. Again, I am
hoping to find a secondary source through the Oxenbridge side.
