I was hoping you could help me. I am researching Stephen Cease/Sease who
was born around 1820. maybe older. He was married to alzada Woodard and
according to thier childrens death certificate, Stephen and Alzada was
born in new york and moved to Tioga County, Pa. They had a son Daniel
Andrew Sease/Cease born in 1849 and a daughter named Mary born 1846.
Stephen died prior to 1858 as Alzada remarried. I have searched
everywhere for Stephen Cease. The family name changes back and forth. The
explaination was given by Daniel Andrew Cease when he applied for Civil
War pension. He said he sometimes spelled it wrong and should be Sease.
His children used both spellings. One of his sons used Cease from Sease
as he was married before and divorced and the woman he wanted to marry
was catholic and would not marry a divorced man so he changed his name to
Cease while his brother went by Sease. Any way I would be so glad to find
anything on Stephen Sease/Cease. I hope you can help/.

Hi! I have just discovered this Cease Rootsweb list and am excited
to join
it. My maternal grandfather was Herman Theopholis Cease, son of
Sidney
Theopholis Cease and Mary Caroline MacIntosh. I am aware of
several
cousins, and we are all hoping to find more info on the Cease line.
The
MacIntosh/Younkhaus book compiled by Frances Sterling Drisko, has
some of
the Cease family in it, since the MacIntosh-Kiff-Cease lines
interconnect at
least twice. The mention of our Cease line goes back to Sidney's
father,
Alexander Cease, born 1 Sept. 1812 in New York. He married Julia
Ann
MacIntosh and they lived in Tioga and Bradford counties, Pa.
Alexander's
father is not listed in the book, but the names Henry II and Elihu
have been
suggested. His mother may have been a Hall, possibly Charlotte.
Alexander
married three times and must have been quite a fellow. My
grandfather
Herman Cease wrote a letter to a 2nd cousin of mine, Arlene (Punk)
Lipchinsky, which is printed in the MacIntosh book, and which
tells
something about his father and grandfather. The family seems to have
been
involved in the lumbering line of work. I hope someone out there
recognizes
these names and I find more of this Cease family. I am looking
forward to
hearing from others with the Cease name. Tricia Knudsen, Arizona,
