My father was Glenn Sease. He was born in 1834 and died in 1998. He had
brothers William, Clifford, and sister Sandra. Thier parents were William
Mathew Sease and Ella Marie Cooley. William was born in 1898 in Marshland
Penn. His parents were Daniel Cease and Rose Ann. Daniel was in the Civil
war and in his pension application it stated that he mistakenly spelled
his name sometimes as Cease but it should be Sease. He said he was born
in 1848 in Tioga Co. Penns. He moved to New York in 1920's and died in
1925. His widow filed for pension and she brought Daniels death
certificate which showed his parents as Stephen Sease/Cease and Alzada
Woodard.
According to the 1850 census in Penn there is a Stephen Sees that listed
his county or state of birth as Hess Darmastadt (germany) and born in
1815 ,this is about as far as I got. I know that Daniel said he lived all
of his life (except a few last years) in Penn. and I find it hard to
believe he was an only child. I checked with the oath of allegience and
intention of Phylidelphia Penn and shows a Stephen Sees filed in
10-3-1856 along with Leopold Seese on the same day. on 10-9-1856. Leopold
also was on the 1910 census of Penn at age 78 from Germany. This would be
about his age. Jacob Sees also applied. They were all from Germany and
filed in the CP court (common Pleas court?) I have not found how to get
these records yet. Although I had dates of marriages, deaths etc I could
not find any of them on the index. I wonder if Penn doesnt submit its
indexs or kept poor records? I know my father said other of his cousins
went by Cease instead of Sease. 2 of Daniels sons names were Cease.
I have researched for many years my mothers southern side here in Georgia
and spend a lot of time going through the historical records in the towns
and county court houses. I cannot make it to Penns unfortunatly so I am
at a loss on how to continue from here. Differant records here were kept
as far as the Civil war it was the same but lots of other records such as
southern claims were very helpful which I know will not help me
researching there.
I know that in the south during the civil war almost all ages of men went
to the service but I dont see another Stephen.
I am open to any suggestions that you might have. thanks for your help.
Nancy
