I saw a post from Charles Labeef on the Cease family and hope he is still
on this list. I am also looking for the same Sease/Cease family/
Daniel Sease/Cease and Rose Sease/Cease.
this is what I know and it was taken from the Civil war pension records.
Daniel Sease/Cease was born in Sullivan township 1849 and lived here
until he enlisted in the service. after the war he said he lived in Tioga
county in Mansfield from 1890 to 1903. in 1903 he lived in Gaines in
Tioga Co and worked at the Corbett acid factory for 1 year. he said he
moved to Gennessee, Potter County, Pa in 1907 to 1917 (I found him on the
1910 census) when he moved to Corning in 1923 and died in Corning,
Steuben Co. in 1925. His death certificate said his father was Stephen
Sease and mother Alzeda Woodard and Daniel was buried in Fairview
Cemetery in Painted Posst.
Rose applied for the widows pension and said they were married in east
charleston in Tioga County on 8-9-1876. She was the daughter of Jonas
Cooley and Eliza LaPoint and she was born in 1862 in Vermont Canada. Rose
died in 1931 in Corning NY.
there children were:
John Clyde (went by Clyde) 2-14-1880 died in Corning 1929.
Mable 9-18-1882
Bertha 8-12-1884
Mary 11-21-1886
Rosa 1-6-1890
Franklin (went by Frank) 10-23-1894
Flora (went by Flossie) 8-29-1896
Verl or Vearl 6-23-1903
William Mathew Sease was my grandfather born in 1898. He said he was born
in Marshland Tioga County, Pa.
On The Tri- Counties list I found Daniels obituary.
Daniel A. Cease died Friday at Corning after an extended illness. He was
the father of Veral Cease of Elmira and a half brother to Mrs. Judson
Mosher of Elmira, the funeral was held at Riverside in Corning Monday.
I also found this ont he site as we;;:
Cease- Mrs. Mary Newell of South Main street died this morning. She is
survives by four sons: E.G. Newell of Lowman, William of Elmira, I.
Newell of Mntour Falls and Leon E. of Towanda Pa. Two brothers DANIEL
CEASE of painted Post and John of Montour Falls, A sister Mrs. Bell
Mosher of Elmira. She is buried in Woodlawn.
So since she was his half sister, Stephen or Alzeda must have remarried.
Of course I did send off for a death cerificate but because I dont know
the date of her death (Mrs Mary Newell) I have to pay by a block of years
to research. I thought this way I could find the parents names.
I did find a Stephen Sees in Pa. in 1850 and he was a laborer. He said he
was born in Hesse Darmstadt.
I checked for the immagration list in our library here and found a
Stephen Sees who filed a declaration or took the oath on 10-3-1856 with
another man Leopold Seese in Philadelphia Pa. But I do not know where to
get these records. The court is listed as CP. What county is Philadelphia
in?
Thanks for hearing me out. I hope this was not to drawn out for you. This
is unfortunatly all I have on my family. My father passed away and his
father moved to Californina about the time I was born so I could never
talk much to him about his life.
Another thing is that he was an outsider because Rose's brother Frank
Cooley born 1870 married Margaret Stanford and had a daughter Ella Marie
Cooley. My grandfather William Mathew Sease married Ella Cooley and the
family was very upset he married his cousin. She died in 1941.
Thanks for any help or suggestions you might have. As I said with being
in the South, I cannot find anything on Penn or New York people except on
the internet. Of course to the spelling on the last name is so differant
paper to paper. Sease Cease Sise Sees Seese etc.
