I received the following message from a young lady who does not subscribe to this list.
She has a lot of her facts wrong. For instance, I do not show that James Robert CEARLOCK
and Thersy RHODES had children named Wilson or Grace. However, I do show that
Thersy's first husband's surname was WILSON. I do not show a child named Grace
for that couple either. Can anyone help this young lady?

Subject: Elias Wilson CEARLOCK, s/o Henry Alexander CEARLOCK and Lucinda MERRIMAN
The following message was posted to the Fayette Co., IL, Rootsweb mailing list yesterday
in response to another reply to my query for Mandy EVANS, a tenth-grader who is
researching her genealogy for a school project.
"<< According to the Ancestry World Family Tree at
ancestry.com, Wilson
Cearlock was born 1878 and married Emma Sanders (no birthdate, no marriage date given),
and they had a son, Willie Cearlock, who married Gladys Hicks. >>
The Wilson Cearlock who married Emma Artonsis Sanders (1885-1903) was Elias Wilson
Cearlock, son of Henry Alexander Cearlock (1833-1902) and Lucinda Merriman
(1840-1911)."
I do have Henry A. CEARLOCK and Lucinda MERRIMAN in my database. I show that Henry was
the son of George W. CARLOCK/CEARLOCK (ca. 1779, NC - ca. 1862, IL)
and Rachel LANDERS. My records also show that Henry can be found on the 1860 census for
Montgomery Co., IL. (Unfortunately, my books are in boxes at this time as I am painting
part of the interior of my house.)
I have corresponded further with Mandy. Here is what she knows: She got her information
from her mother. She knows of no older living relatives that she can use as resources.
Mandy is fairly certain that Grace's maiden name was CEARLOCK. Grace married Ernie
James BLACK, lived in Vandalia, IL, and died in 1940, as an elderly woman. Mandy had
heard that Grace's parents were John Henry CEARLOCK and Thersy RHODES, she thinks from
a birth certificate, but she does not have access to the birth certificate at this time.
The information she gathered from John Henry CEARLOCK back came from a listing at
Ancestry.com which appears to not be totally accurate.
Can anyone help Mandy connect her Grace Ann in with our Fayette Co., IL, CEARLOCKs?

Subject: [ILFAYETT-L] Grace Ann Cearlock
My aunt's first husband, Ron Black, is the son of Earney Black, Sr. & Grace
Ann Cearlock. I have nothing before Earney & Grace. However, I have pictures of their
gravestones on my homepage with their birth & death years. They are buried at
Fairlawn in Vandalia; IL. Earney's dates are 1894-1958. Grace's are 1903-1980.
If you go to
http://www.advancenet.net/~conure/geneindex.htm scroll down to the cemetery
section & click on Fairlawn in Vandalia, you will be taken to Photopoint where the
graves are. Earney & Grace are in the 4th row, second grave.
I have that Earney & Grace had 13 children. I believe that Ron Black is still in
Vandalia. I will try to get in touch with my aunt to see if she remembers who his
grandparents were on Grace's side. Hope this helps a little.

I have that Grace Ann Carlock was the daughter of John Franklin Carlock (1869-1939).
