I am a desendent of George Washington Carlock and Kitty Read/Reed. I want to
know about their children and their densendents. Two of their sons married
sisters, parents were Simpson Lightfoot and Comfort Poe. I plan to give my
grandchildren their genealogy.

Subject: Henry and Joseph CARLOCK/CARELOCK of Rutherford Co., NC, 1782 -
1803
The Rutherford County, NC, Land Grants list, by W. D. FLOYD, located
at
the following site, shows the following listings for Henry and Joseph
CARELOCK:
http://ns1.rfci.net/wdfloyd/grants.html
Carelock, Henry 4-6 50 1797
Carelock, Joseph 4-6 51 1797
Furthermore, the Rutherford County, NC, Deed Index, Grantor-Grantee,
1779-1917, by
W. D. FLOYD, located at the following site, shows the
following listings for Henry and Joseph CARLOCK:
http://ns1.rfci.net/wdfloyd/DeedDex.html
Carlock, Henry & Joseph / Wear, Robert / Deed/12-14/245/1800
Carlock, Henry / McEntire, Alexander / Deed/20-21/98/1803
Carlock, Henry / Porter, David / Deed/10-11/38/1798
I am seeking further information with regard to these individuals,
including their
relationship to each other. Henry appears to be the Henry
CURLOCK/KERLOCK found in Rutherford Co., NC, tax records, 1782; Mecklenburg
Co., NC, court records, 1787; and the 1790 federal census for Rutherford
Co., NC. The Mecklenburg Co., NC, connection leads me to believe that Henry
could be a son of Frederick CARLOCK (s/o David), not mentioned among
Frederick's children on page 437 of the book "History of the Carlock
Family", by Marion Pomeroy CARLOCK, 1929. Furthermore, the 1787 Mecklenburg
Co., NC, court record where Henry was awarded money for the orphans of
Christopher LANDESS suggests that Henry may be somehow related to the family
of George W. CARLOCK/CEARLOCK, b. ca. 1779, NC, ancestor of the Illinois
branch of the CEARLOCK (pronounced like "CARELOCK") family, who married
Christopher LANDESS's granddaughter Rachel LANDERS, Oct. 11, 1805, Warren
Co., KY.
The above-mentioned Rutherford County, NC, Deed Index also includes the
following
listings for a Henry LANDERS. Is this the same Henry LANDERS who
was the son of Christopher LANDESS, the father of Rachel LANDERS, and who
migrated to Warren Co., KY?
Landers, Henry / Green, William / Deed/M-Q/360/1796
Landers, Henry / Hamrick, James / Deed/M-Q/301/1796
Furthermore, page 437 of the book "History of the Carlock Family" lists a
Joseph CARLOCK (s/o Lemuel, Hanchrist, David), "b. 1780, in southwestern
Va.; emigrated to Tenn. with his uncle, Abraham Carlock, in 1803; later
settled in Marion Co.; served War 1812; enlisted as Private Oct. 4, 1814, in
Capt. Wm. Dooley's Company, McGrory's Regiment, West Tenn. Militia Inf.;
dis. Jan. 4, 1814; wife unknown. Children: 1. James, born 1800; wife
Elizabeth _____; wife b. 1810, farmer. 2. Joseph Taylor, b. Oct. 19, 1857,
in Walker Co., Tenn.; m. Phoebe Halloway, April 7, 1820." Interestingly,
this Joseph's son James also used the spelling "CARELOCK", and the book
says
that Joseph's son John migrated to Allen Co., KY, and was the father of
George Washington CARLOCK (1812 - 1862) who died in Warren Co., KY, and
whose son Luther Carel CARLOCK/CEARLOCK was the ancestor of the Oklahoma
branch of the CEARLOCK family. At this point I do not have any evidence to
connect this Joseph CARLOCK!
with the Joseph CARLOCK/CARELOCK mentioned in the Rutherford Co.,
NC,
1797 land grant and 1800 deed.
Any additional information with regard to the Henry and Joseph
CARLOCK/CARELOCK
mentioned in the Rutherford Co., NC, 1797 land grants and
1798, 1800, and 1803 deeds would be greatly appreciated.
