I received this query from a non-member. I am posting the response here for
all to read.
I have a copy of the book "History of the Carlock Family", by Marion Pomeroy
Carlock, 1929. If you are interested in purchasing a copy, contact Jerry Lee
Carlock; Box 1; Bath, IL 62617. Jerry previously had the book reprinted, but
apparently sold all of those copies. Another researcher recently told me
that Jerry is making a list of names of people who would be interested in
purchasing a copy if the book were to be reprinted again.
David CARLOCK and his known children are listed on pages 436 and 437 of the
book. According to the book, his five children were:
1. Hanchrist (John Christian), b. ca. 1715, Holland; m.#1. Susan WITMER;
m.#2. Sarah WHITMAN; in Augusta Co., VA, records 1748 - 1752, Fincastle Co.,
VA, records 1774, and Bath Co., VA, records 1782; d. 1803, Smythe Co., VA.
The book lists nine known children, with the first two being by his first
wife: Lemuel, Catherine, Abraham, Isaac, Eunice, Moses, Jacob, Job, and Mary.
2. Caroline, b. 1717, Holland; m. Frederick STARNES; in Rockbridge Co., VA,
records, 1782. The book lists two children, Adam STARNES and Samuel STARNES.
3. Frederick, b. 1720, Holland; in Augusta Co., VA, records 1747 - 1753;
emigrated to Mecklenburg Co., NC, before the Revolutionary War. The book
lists two children, George and Frederick, Jr. The 1790 census shows that
Frederick, Jr., had one daughter. Information about George's descendants
will follow below.
4. Conrad, b. 1723; m. Mary; in Augusta Co., VA, records 1753; in Fincastle
Co., VA, records 1774; d. 1811, without issue.
5. Catherine, b. 1725; m. WHITMAN; in Rockbridge Co., VA, records 1782. The
book lists two children, Mary WHITMAN who m. William BRADLEY, and Barbara
WHITMAN who m. John JAMESON.
The descendants of Frederick's son George can be found on pages 615 - 629 of
the same book. According to the book, George had the following five children:
1. John, b. 1785; m. Isabelle.
2. Ebenezer "Eber", b. 1793; m. Susannah.
3. Epenetus, b. 1795; m. Nancy DANIEL; no issue.
4. Samuel
5. Rebecca, m. SHINN.
I am exploring the possibility that my direct ancestor, George W.
CARLOCK/CEARLOCK, b. ca. 1779, NC; m. Rachel LANDERS, may have also been a
son of George.
