I have completed entering into my database information about the descendants of Luther
Carel/Carol CARLOCK/CEARLOCK (b. 1841) of Cooke Co., TX, as found in the book
"Cearlock/Carlock/Curlock, Lane, Odom, and Summy Family Histories," by Marilyn
D. LYNCH, 1987, as well as additional information contributed by researcher and descendant
Neal P. WILLIAMS. My database also includes information about this family previously
contributed by researcher and descendant Whitney ANDERSON, as well as additional
information found on the Internet.
Luther is pictured on page 439 of the book "History of the Carlock Family," by
Marion Pomeroy CARLOCK, 1929. I have Luther's ancestry as follows in the following
report which appears on my home page:
http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/t/i/l/Susan-E-Tilleman/GENE18-...
Hans GERLACH
David GERLACH/CARLOCK
Hanchrist CARLOCK
Lemuel CARLOCK
possibly John CARLOCK
George Washington CARLOCK/CARELOCK
Luther Carel/Carol CARLOCK/CEARLOCK
See the following archived posting for instructions regarding searching within the
above-mentioned report:

Also see the following archived message for a discussion of why I question Luther's
grandfather John being a son of Lemuel. I would be very much interested in any sources
which can confirm John's ancestry one way or the other.

Luther is known to have had two sons and three daughters. Descendants of his son William
Alfred CARLOCK/CEARLOCK spell their surname "CEARLOCK" and can be found
primarily in the area around Marlow, Stephens Co., OK. Descendants of his son Walter
Carol CARLOCK/CEARLOCK/CURLOCK spell their surname "CURLOCK" and can be found
primarily in the area around Sayre, Beckham Co., OK.
Luther's descendants are not to be confused with the descendants of George W.
CARLOCK/CEARLOCK, b. ca. 1779, NC, many of whom also used the spellings
"CEARLOCK" and "CURLOCK." George's CARLOCK and CEARLOCK
descendants are found primarily in the area around Fayette Co., IL. His CURLOCK
descendants are found primarily in the area around Jefferson Co., IL. I am one of
George's CEARLOCK descendants. We pronounce the surname "CEARLOCK" like
"CARELOCK."
I have also identified three lines of CURLOCKs in Canada: one in the Estevan,
Saskatchewan, area, near the North Dakota border, of as-yet-unidentified origin; one in
the New Brunswick area, of English origin; and one in the Alberta area, of Ukranian origin
(from the surname KURYLUK). The spelling "CURLOCK" also appears elsewhere in
United States records.
