There appear to be two distinct branches of the CEARLOCK family. The first
can trace their ancestry back through Lemuel CARLOCK, son of Hanchrist
CARLOCK, and grandson of David GERLACH/CARLOCK who is listed on page 436 of
the book "History of the Carlock Family", by Marion Pomeroy CARLOCK, 1929.
The second branch, the one to which I belong, can trace their ancestry back
to George W. CARLOCK/CEARLOCK, b. ca. 1779, NC; m. Rachel LANDERS, Oct. 11,
1805, Warren Co., KY; d. ca. 1862, possibly Fayette Co., IL. It seems very
likely that this second branch is somehow related to the first branch, but we
have not yet found the exact connection.
According to the LDS FamilySearch Internet Genealogy Service at the following
site, the above-mentioned David was the son of Hans GERLACH and Anna Maria
KUMMER, and was born in Heidelberg, Germany, in 1674:
http://familysearch.org/Search/af/ancestral_file_frame.asp?recid=22682837.
Also according to the same site, at least three of Hans's children, Conrad,
John Christian, and David, migrated to America. It says that Conrad died ca.
1710 in NJ or NY, that John Christian died in 1764 in NY, and that David died
in 1763 in Augusta Co., VA. Please visit the above-mentioned site if you
would like further information about this family.
