This is a follow-up to my July 3, 2011, posting to the RootsWeb CARLOCK
Message Board titled “Re: CARLOCK Family of Mecklenburg Co. and Cabarrus
Co., NC,” on the subject of early CARLOCK land holders in this area. Since
I have no other information about a Daniel CERLOCK (CARLOCK) living in the
portion of Mecklenburg Co., NC, which later became Cabarrus Co., I suspect
“Daniel” could be an incorrect transcription of “David.” The two names do
look similar and I know of another instance in Illinois records where
a "David" was incorrectly transcribed as "Daniel." Records show that
David
CARLOCK (ca. 1739 – ca. 1814), believed to be the eldest son of Frederick
CARLOCK/CARELOCK (1720 – 1792), lived in the portion of Mecklenburg Co., NC,
which became Cabarrus Co. in 1792.
Please let me know if anyone has an opportunity to examine and decipher the
handwritten records.
