The following site lists an 1822 Allen Co., KY, land grant to George
CEARLOCK for 50 acres, Bays Fork:
http://www.allencountyky.com/database/land/landC.html
This must be my ancestor, George W. CARLOCK/CEARLOCK (ca. 1779 - ca. 1862),
(s/o David, Frederick, David) of Warren Co., KY, since his second-cousin,
once removed, George Washington CARLOCK/CARELOCK (1812 - 1862) (s/o John,
Lemuel, Hanchrist, David) of Allen Co. and Warren Co., KY, would have only
been about 10 years old in 1822.
Note that George W. CARLOCK/CEARLOCK (ca. 1779 - ca. 1862), his father David
CARLOCK/CARELOCK (ca. 1739 - ca. 1814), and their descendants were not
mentioned in the book "History of the Carlock Family," by Marion Pomeroy
CARLOCK, 1929. George's grandfather Frederick CARLOCK/CARELOCK (1720 -
1792) of Mecklenburg Co., NC, is mentioned on pages 31 - 33, 50, 436, and
437 of the book. George was the progenitor of the CEARLOCK family of
Fayette Co., Illinois, some of whom used the spelling "CARLOCK," and the
CURLOCK family of Jefferson Co., IL.
George's second cousin, once removed, George Washington CARLOCK/CARELOCK
(1812 - 1862) is mentioned on pages 438 and 439 of Marion Pomeroy CARLOCK's
book. George's son Luther (Carel or Carol) CARLOCK/CURLOCK/CEARLOCK (b.
1841) was the progenitor of the CEARLOCK family of Stephens Co., Oklahoma,
and the CURLOCK family of Beckham Co., Oklahoma. Note that George's brother
William Henry CARLOCK (1814 - 1872) also migrated to Fayette Co., Illinois,
and had CARLOCK descendants living near my CARLOCK/CEARLOCK ancestors.
George and Luther are both pictured on page 439 of Marion Pomeroy CARLOCK's
book.
Also note that George (b. 1812) and William's (b. 1814) father John CARLOCK
(1772 - 1833) and uncle Joseph CARLOCK (b. 1780) appear to have been closely
associated with George's (b. ca. 1779) uncle Henry CARLOCK/CURLOCK/KERLOCK
of Rutherford Co., NC, and Campbell Co. and Anderson Co., TN. I theorize
that Henry may have taken one or both of the brothers in after their father,
his first cousin, was killed by Indians. Henry was also not mentioned in
Marion Pomeroy CARLOCK's book.
