Mrs. Kathryn Ruth Jones Cearley, 90, a resident of Sunnyside
Presbyterian Retirement Community, died Monday, May 23, 2005.
A daughter of the late D.R. and Dessie Payne Jones, she was born Dec.
13, 1914, in Union County, Ga. She graduated from Young Harris College
in Young Harris, Ga. and taught school for 11 years in Union County, Ga.
Mrs. Cearley was later employed by the Navy Dept. for 21 years, serving
as a budget analyst.
Mrs. Cearley made her home in Virginia Beach and the Norfolk communities
prior to moving to Harrisonburg in 1986. She was a member of First
Presbyterian Church in Harrisonburg.
On May 11, 1935, she married Rufus Cearley, who preceded her in death
Dec. 10, 1986.
Surviving are one sister, Ruby Yeargin of Dalton, Ga.; two
sisters-in-law, Carrie Jones of Culpeper and Betty Jones of Blairsville,
Ga.; and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by
two brothers, John B. Jones of Culpeper and Robert W. Jones of
Blairsville, Ga.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Eastlawn Memorial
Gardens Mausoleum with the Rev. Tom Holden officiating.
