Hi Gary.
Phoebe Anna Caywood was the daughter of James Willett Caywood (b. October 27, 1842 d.
September 24, 1930)and Phoebe Eliza Mick b. 7-28-1849 d. October 16, 1924. All the above
(Fountain Gale included) are buried in Weymouth Cemetery, Weymouth, Atlantic County, NJ.
Children of Phoebe Eliza Mick and James Willett Caywood are: 1. Willett Hemingway Caywood
b. 5-31-1869
2. Jacob Caywood b.4-4-1871
3.Phoebe Anna Caywood, b. 1874
4.James W. Caywood b. 1877
5. Harvey Caywood b. 1878
6. Myrtle Mae Caywood b. 1871
7.Arabella Caywood b. 1889
James Willett Caywood's (b. 1842) parents are supposedly
Jacob Caywood and Catherine Headley. I have found them and children listed under Haywood
in the Census but there is no evidence of a name change unless it was spelled Kaywood
originally or the census taker misheard. Oral family history says that Jacob Caywood b.
abt 1793 came from England with a brother. I have not found this particular Catherine
Headley among the NJ Headleys. There is another Catherine Headley b. abt 1815 but
she's not our girl.
Phoebe Eliza Mick, wife of James Willett Caywood, was the daughter of John Mick and Phoebe
Couch (supposed Lenape Indian according to oral family history), he was the son of Michael
Mick Jr.b.1784 and Delilah Devinney, and he was the straw boss at Martha Furnace,
Washington Twp. NJ, Michael Mick, Jr. was the son of Michael Mick Sr. b. abt 1763 and Mary
Moore of Evesham, Burlington Co. married 1783. (Mary was the daughter of John Moore)
Fountain Gale and Phoebe Anna Caywood lived in Weymouth, NJ in a workers cottage near the
furnace ruins.
They had 6 children that I know of:
Margaret, James, Myrtle, Adelade, Sarah and George.
George married Mildred Cupple and they had two sons George and Harry. My info on the Gale
side is sketchy. Lynn will be able to serve you better there.
My grandfather Willett Hemingway Caywood was Phoebe Anna Caywood's brother. Uncle
Fount (as he was called) lived to be quite old and died in the 1960's. He could really
tell a tale!
If you want you may email me at mawson1(a)comcast.net for more details and dates on the
Caywood-Mick family tree and some on the Gale cousins.
Regards and Happy Hunting,
Rosana Boutwell Mawson
