Let us all re-post our earliest K-L-R ancestors. Here is ours:
The prodigenator of my husband's KOEHLER / KÖHLER family
came to NY in about 1850. The records we have found of him
say that he was born in Metz in Germanic Europe ca 1830-37.
His name was Christian F. KOEHLER (as Americanized). He
signed his surname as KÖHLER.
Christian married Sopha NEWMANN (also b Germanic Europe) in
Wolcottsville, Niagara County, NY ca 1868. We have found papers
indicating his having been a soilder during our Civil War. He and
Sopha later migrated to Macon County, MO where they are both
buried. His stone has the dates (22 Sept 1837-3 Jan 1906) on it,
but I have misgivings that the birthyear is correct.
Any help in locating information about Christian's parents and/or
siblings will be appreciated. We are always interested in contact
with others who may be related, and we are quite willing to share
the large amount of information we have gathered about Christian
and Sopha's descendants.
