Good morning All,
The lists have been so quiet for so long that I decided to post to see who is
out there who might be able to help. I am the List Mom for many of these
K_L_R lists, and I invite everyone to begin posting their lines and/or queries
once again. We never know when someone new might be subscribed here.
My husband's family's prodigenator was Christian KOEHLER (KÖHLER in
Germanic Europe). My sister-in-law found Christian to have been born in a town
called Metz. His naturalization papers, dated 4 Oct 1856, say that he was born in
Saxony and show him renouncing his loyalty to the Sace of Coburgh at that
time. He stated his age as 26 years at that time, so the DOB on his gravemarker
that shows his birth year to be 1837 does not match with what should be 1824.
(1856 minus the 6yr waiting period, minus his stated age of 26yr)
We have studied maps of Germanic Europe for the time period ca his birth, but
have been unable to conclude which town of Metz might have been Christian's
birth place... if Metz is even the correct town.
We will appreciate any pointers, tips and/or information that anyone is willing to
supply. And, we have an extensive list of Christian's descendants which we are
willing to share with cousins. (BTW, Christian settled in Macon County, MO,
after marrying in NY state and fighting in the War Between the States.)
