Let's see if I can do better at explaining our K-L-R / C-L-R family.
Do any of you have an Eli or Henry KAHLER, who *might* be
related to our family?
Summary for:
Christian F. KOEHLER (surname Americanized)
1837/1840 - born in what is now Melzow, Brandenburg, Germany
to Maria BRAND & Christian KO:HLER
1850/1852 - immigrated to the USA - ship unknown
1856 - gave up loyalty to the "Sace of Coburg"
1859 - became citizen. Eli KAHLER & Henry KAHLER, of Lockport,
NY, stated that they were well acquainted with him.
1865 - enlisted in Union Army in Chicago, IL
We know that he fought in at least one
battle and that his health was ruined.
1868 - January - discharged from Union Army, at Fort Ripley, MN
1868 - November - married in Wolcottsville, NY
ca 1870 - settled in Macon County, Missouri, USA, where he spent the
remainder of his life
1890 - listed in the Macon County, MO Veterans census as Christian
COLER, Pvt. Co. A, New York Infantry
1906 - died Macon County, MO, USA leaving a widow and 2 married
daughters, Mrs. Fred (Helen) DOHRING, of Bloomington, MO
& Mrs. Will (Ellie) JENKINS, of Callao, MO. Three children had
pre-deceased him, including my husband's grandfather.
Were Eli and Henry part of Christian's family. I think so. After all,
he was discharged from the Union Army in MN. He must have had
a reason for traveling all the way back to NY.
But, had he already met his then future wife before leaving NY?
I think not, because he had enlisted in Chicago, IL!
Can you shed any light on this man's siblings?
Are you interested in the information about his descendants?
We have Christian's census information from several censuses.
