In the county of Grant in the state of Wisconsin dwelled two David Caylors. According to
the 1860 Federal Census David Kaylor Sr. (spelt with the K instead of the C we have always
used). age 55 a white male farmer. His wife is listed as Lydia and her age is given as 60
a white female. Also listed along with this couple is their 19 year old son, John Kaylor.
All born in Pennsylvania.
Listed in the next residence is David Kaylor Jr. age 24 white male cord wainer (whatever a
cord wainer is?)
This David Kaylor Jr. age 24 is believed to be the male parent of our Caylor ancestors and
the David Kaylor Sr and his wife Lydia are assumed to be the grandparents.
After reading Jim Stout's information about his being the descendant of Rebecca Caylor
Stout. It made me relook at everything.
My apologizes to Mr. Stout for not being able to respond to his quires prior to now, and I
can no longer reach him.
I have a picture of David Caylor Jr. and I also have one of his brother, John Caylor, whom
someone mistakenly identified as John Henry Caylor, the son of David Caylor Jr. The back
of the picture reads as follows: John Caylor, Grandma Davis' uncle, someone crossed
out uncle and wrote brother with a question mark. Also appearing in the picture are Aunt
Jane, Esther and Rebecca, then stating that these are his sister's daughters. However
the girls appear to be too young for them to be his sister's daughters. Aunt Jane on
the other hand appears to be of the correct age for John's neice.
To: Jim Stout and anyone else interested in David Caylor and Catherine Rice and the
Caylors of Wisconsin
John Caylor son of David Caylor Sr. was born around 1841 in Pennsylvania.
questions:
Who was his wife? Where did he live? Cannot find on Federal Census.
Who are is descendants? When did he die and where?
David Caylor Sr. born about 1805 in Pennsylvania, believed to have died after his son
David Caylor Jr. It is believed that David Caylor Sr. died around 1868 prior to the 1870
Census.
If Catherine Rice married David Caylor Jan 14, 1858, how come she or none of the children
appear on the 1860 cenus? Also her name does not appear with that of her parents, Tobias
Riley Rice. Who purchased 200 acres of land in Grant County in the Twp of Millville in
1858. Millville is the adjoining twp to Patch Grove where the Caylors lived.
The ages, birthdays, wedding days and death dates are such a jumble, I think if these
people came back that they would not know themselves.
