The 1880 census for Harrison Township, Montgomery County, Ohio has entries for Jacob
Caylor, age 42, wife Emmeline, age 38, son Elmore age 18, son Harley age 13, son Frank age
3, and farm laborer Joseph Dom age 22. According to this census, there were two other
Caylor families living in close proximity to each other. In addition to Jacob Caylor,
there was a household headed by a Harry Caylor age 27 with wife Samantha and one daughter
and one son plus a household headed by a Rebecca Carson(?) age 73 widowed living with her
widowed daughter Sophia Caylor age 27 and granddaughter Emma Caylor age 7. Since the 1890
census was destroyed by a fire, the next available census is 1900. On the 1900 census
Jacob Caylor, now a widower, still lives in Harrison Township with his son Harley,
daughter-in-law Rachael, and grandson Walter. Neither of the two other Caylor households
appear on the 1900 census. Although the 1890 Federal census was destroyed by fire, the
1890 Veterans Schedules is!
available and because Jacob Caylor served as a Corporal in the 131st Ohio Infantry
during the Civil War, he is shown as a survivor living in the West Precinct, Harrison
Township, Montgomery County, Ohio. Joseph Milford Caylor was born after the 1880 census
and apparently he left his father's home prior to the 1900 census to live with his
brother Frank and sister-in-law Sadie in Dayton,Ohio.
