Regina,
Thanks for the message. You did clear up a thing or two for me on the address of Beatrice
Kelly Reed in Chicago.
You are correct on the parents of Patrick Canavan and Bridget Canavan, they were Anthony
Canavan and Bridget Kelly. Patrick died on the Titanic, though he probably saved the
lives of many 3rd class women and children that night. Bridget Canavan married a Patrick
Murray, that I suspect you are descended from.
I don't think the information on the Kelly's is right though. Bridget and Anna
Katherine (Annie Kate) Kelly were 2 of 11 children of John Kelly and Ellen Flaherty.
There were 10 girls, 3 being Anna Katherine Kelly, Bridget Kelly Canavan, and Beatrice
Kelly Reed. The only brother was Patrick (my grandfather), not John. Patrick's father
was John (my great grandfather).
Your mentioning of Bridget and John Kelly that were children of David Kelly and Catherine
Ruane Kelly is, I believe, another branch of the Kelly's. How they are related I
don't know, but I will suggest a connection. When I was in Lahardane in 1977, I
remember my Uncle Patrick (it is so confusing with the same names) took me to a John
Kelly's house, who was my grandfather Patrick's 1st cousin and his best man at his
wedding.
I also have John Kelly (my great grandfather) as the son of Thomas Kelly and Mary Mayock.
I am interested in your Philadelphia connection. I have yet to figure it out, but I know
somehow I am related to Princess Grace Kelly of Monaco. As you know, Grace grew up in
Philadelphia and her father was John Kelly, who was also the son of John Kelly who
emigrated from Lahardane and was related to my grandfather Patrick Kelly somehow. I have
yet to figure this out.
Obviously, you made the connection for me as to why the Canavan's, Cawley's,
McGowan's, and Kelly's ended up in Philadelphia.
We are obviously related. I will send you some private information on the Kelly's in
Chicago.
More to come, John K.
