Page 285.--24th October, 1806. George Mathews' will, Sr., of Mississippi
Territory--To daughters, Rebecca Meriwether and Jane Telfair, land in
Kentucky on Green River; to son, John Mathews' three sons, George,
Archer, and John Mathews, 1,000 acres on Ohio River four miles below
mouth of Sciota; to son William's four sons, George, Francis Meriwether,
Charles L., and Samuel B. Mathews, land on Dice Creek in Ohio; to wife,
Mary; to Miss Sarah Carpenter Nelson. Executors, sons George and Charles
L. Mathews. Teste: Lawrence Lewis, Archibald Lewis, John Cavit.
Certified true copy from Adams County, Mississippi Territory. Proved in
Scott County, Ky., September Court, 1813. Recorded in Augusta County,
27th September, 1813.

4. Patrick Cavitt m. 2nd Mary Porter (d. 1835).
Patrick Cavitt (1735-1835) enlisted, 1782, as private in Capt. James
Poe's company, Col. Alexander Brown's regiment, Cumberland [p.222]
County, Pennsylvania troops. He was born in Ireland; lived in Cumberland
County, Pa.

THOMAS BROWN.
Thomas Brown, twin brother of Gen. John Brown, was born in Dobbs County,
now Greene County, North Carolina, Sept. 15, 1779, son of Capt. John
Brown and his wife, Mary Tarver, of that county. After the death of his
father, his mother moved to Tennessee and settled near Lenoir City.
Later Thomas Brown became one of the incorporators of Roane County, as
did his brothers, John and William. In 1800 Thomas Brown married in Knox
County, Jane Adams McElwee, daughter of a Revolutionary soldier. The
McElwee family rendered first aid at the Cavitt family massacre.
