Sounds good to me....I do think we all realize that there are many errors with
old records. Even in the book that I have been posting...we know that some of
it is in error.....and to me....this is the main reason for this list.....to
help all of us find out as much information as we can. When I started on mine
I only knew that my grandmothers maiden name was Cavitt..nothing more...and I
have come so very far from that place! This family is such a delight..and a
horror to research! I have met many that did not even want to share their
info(no way we could have anything you need.....we spell our name
different......sigh).....!!
I may be sticking my neck out here....but I only want to know....to
learn.....about all of the Cavitts(by whatever spelling!) that I can.....I
don't care where they came from......what good OR bad they did......we are all
human.......we all have problems and faults....so did our ancestors. I just
want to learn all I can....and help others learn.
My idea is to input what info we(any of us!) have..even if they are done
separately....it would just be so much easier to deal with. I personally have
no "northern" information...wish I did...would gladly accept anything.....so
post away....that is also what this list is for! The few folks I ran across in
my early days net would not share any info on the northern branch...period!
Ok......*grin*.....off my soapbox for now!

Rita, this is a good idea. I hope you find someone to help, but
I'd like to
see the first generation handled very carefully. It seems that most of the
people on the list are descended from the southern branch of the Cavitt
family. As a descendant of the northern branch who stayed in Pennsylvania
then moved west, I disagree with the first generation information in the
book. One of these days I'll cite my reasons why, but for now suffice it
to say there are just too many discrepancies in Pennsylvania records to
accept the dates etc. as being accurate. Perhaps there were two generations
of Moses Cavitts that haven't been distinguished. I don't have the answer,
but I am suspect of the information printed on the first generation.
