Write how all of you get on up there. The blockade vessel still keeps
her distance. You can write many things that would be of interest to me
if you would write me. I do not know what would interest you more. If I
did I would spare no pains to give you the news on any subject.
I an well pleased with the situation for our camp. We have as many
conveniences as any conpany on Galveston Island, with the exception of
houses. I think we will have our houses too shortly, or at least by the
time the bad weather sets in.
A great many people have moved away from Galveston within the last three
weeks. We have an agreeable company as you could expect, I have a good
mess and that is a great thing. I will expect a letter from you soon.
To
Josephus Cavitt
Your brother
Sheridan Cavitt
Three months after this letter was sent, Sheridan Cavitt was dead, Sam
Houston came to Wheelock to tell Ann Cavett Cavitt Armstrong that her
beloved son was gone--the little boy Grandma Margarite had loved so
dearly those 30 long years ago back in Tennessee. Grief was no stranger
to Ann, who bore it with fortitude and prayer.
