Citizen of this County, died at his residence on the 11th instant, aged
80 years and 5 months. His health had been declining for many years and
his departure was anticipated by him with resignation and composure. He

frequent proof of his devotion to his country. He was long an acceptable
member of the Baptist Church, and died in the faith of a happy change of
existence. He was an industrious and enterprising Citizen and realized
by his own exertions an independent fortune. He has left a large number

of Madison held at Huntsville on 19 Aug. 1834 before the Hon. John C.
Thompson, Judge.
Richard Cavett, a citizen of said county resided therein an this day and
appeared in open court and being 70 years of age makes the following
declaration in order to obtain the benefit of the provisions made by the
act of Congress passed June 7, 1832.
From the uniform traditions of my fathers family I was born on the
headwaters of James River in what was probably Botetourt Co., VA. in
1765. There was no record of my age known to me.
Presently after my birth I was removed with fathers family to the region
then unsettled called Sullivan Co.
NC between the Allegheny Mountains and Mis. River. Hither my father went
as a pioneer. His name was Moses
Cavett. He maintained his part in the remote settlement against hostile
savages until his death. He was a Captain under Col Isaac Shelby and
fought under him at Kings Mountain in the fall of 1780.
