While reviewing old Cavitt postings, I realized I had not responded to
Ralph Corbett's note re 1804 marriage of a Sally Cavitt and a William
Pruitt. Better late than never, perhaps, so just in case anyone cares:
Sally was the eldest daughter of Richard and Rutha Millsap Cavitt and a
grandchild of Moses and Agnes Meetch Cavitt. She was born in Sullivan
County, TN, but her parents moved to Roane County, TN, in 1796 and after
16 years there moved to Madison County, AL. Presumably, Sally was
married in Roane County. Pruitt's initials were M. W.

Recently I copied some pages from a microfilm at the LDS Family History
Center. I do not have the film number handy. It has Bible records of
William Pruit and Family, son of Jacob. I believe it was on family records
from Madison County, AL.
It states:
William Pruit born Dec. 22, 1786 died July 5, 1841 m. Dec. 4, 1804 to Sally
Cavitt b. April 3, 1782 died Aug. 30, 1830
Their children:
William C., Ruthy, Richard, Nancy Ann, Polly Ann, Jacob M., James A., Betsy
Ann, Orleans, Moses, John.
When Sally died, William Pruit married Martha Patsie Looney (Hodges) (b. 1797
d. 1869) the widow of Fleming Hodges on Feb. 7, 1831. They had children
together.
The records state that Jacob M. Pruitt was born in Madison County, Alabama
and moved to Lawrence County with his father. He then moved to Desota
County, MS where he married in 1836. He moved to Drew Copunty, Arkansas in
about 1858-9. Soon after the Civil War he moved to Coryell County, Texas
where he died in 1890. It also states that he left quite a fortune. In a
side note it is handwritten : estimated one million.
The records have more information on Jacob M. Pruit's descendants. It
states that at the time this was written that the Bible was owned by Albert
Huntington Pruit b. 1882 (grandson of William Pruit and Sally Cavitt through
their son Jacob M. and his son Aurelius Pruit.
Hope this helps someone. If anyone is researching this line, more
information can be found on the microfilm.
