Does anyone know who William Cavet was?
When Agnes Cavett sold the so-called "perishable" portion of Moses Cavett's
estate during the winter of 1802 (see Knox County, TN Estate Book, Volume 1,
Page 98), a man named William Cavet purchased nine lots of merchandise at the
estate sale.
He purchased a saw, augurs, and a drawing knife; two lots of iron (it is not
known whether this was scrap iron or new working stock); a (shot) gun; two
hogs; a bin of oats; four hogs; one shoat; and one sow and pigs.
Moses Cavett's will mentions only his sons Thomas, John, and Richard, and
grandson Phillip Bosley. Richard's 1834 Revolutionary War Pension deposition
stated that his father had four sons and five daughters. When Agnes settled the
Moses Cavett estate on 10/6/1818, the residue was distributed to four sons
(namely Richard, John, Moses, and Thomas) and three daughters, so it is clear
that William Cavet was not the "fourth son" (see Knox County, TN County Court
Clerk: Settlements & Administrations, Vol. 3, Page 42 - 44).
The above reference to William Cavet is only the second mention that I have
found of him. He also appears on the Giles County, TN "Intruder's List" in
1809, as having been removed from Chickasaw Indian lands.
Does anyone know whose child William Cavet was? He was undoubtedly related
to Moses Cavett in some manner.
