In 1792, territorial Governor William Blount created the first
court in Knox County, TN, the site of Cavitt Station. According to THE
FRENCH-BROAD-Holsten Country, A
History of Knox County, Tennessee (edited by Mary U.
Rothrock and published in 1946 bt the East Tennessee
Historical Society), the territorial court met only one time
before Tennessee became a state in 1793.
Interestingly, the "one and only" item of business brought
before that court was the oath of Alexander Caveatt (spelling probably attributable ot
handwriting) that "Susannah
Caveatt had departed this life the 29th day of April, 1792".
The court was never again convened.
Does anyone have the maiden name of Susannah Cavett?
