Re: Cavitt Book p33

Hi Rita,
I personally want to thank you for your great effort in transcribing this
documentation! It is not only valuable from the standpoint of my Cavitt
ancestry, but it most valuable with the history of the Austin Colonies of
Texas. You see, as well as being a Cavitt, I am also the ggg granddaughter
of Gordon C. Jennings who was a member of the "Little Colony at Mina," and
the oldest man to die at the Alamo under the command of William B. Travis.
His wife, Catherine Overton Avery McCutcheon Jennings (my ggg grandmother)
was also involved in the Runaway Scrape affair after the fall of the Alamo
in March of 1836. This documentation has given me a great insight into how
they (the Jennings) lived and why they chose to migrate from Lincoln Co. MO
to Mina, Texas in 1833. The statement about how and why Austin acquired
the "Little Colony" in a rather under-handed manner was quite intriguing!
So---He used my ancestor and other like him to create a buffer to Comanche
and Tonkowa attacks on the main Colony!
I wanted to let you know that as you send I am compiling the information
into a word document and editing it. Have no fear, I am a published author
and a native born Texan to boot ---so none of the nuances of the "Southern
Dialect" will be lost. I am correcting the type-o's and msps. If anyone
has missed something, I have caught it all.
Please tell me--Who wrote this? Because of the reasons express above, I do
not believe it is published. I could be wrong however.
