I have never heard Henri Cabanis referred to a Henri De La Cabines. Not by
any researcher, not by my own research, not on any of the records uncovered by
myself ,or that anyone else has uncovered .
.Henri Cabanis et sa femme et un enfant. arrived in Va in 1699/1700 .The
word enfant does not mean an infant as one would normally think of it .It
meant child. Many of the immigrants on the Mary and Ann had three and four
enfants.Only a few on the list have a designation such as son of or
daughter of the immigrant. Thjs enfant found with Henri and wife is not
identified as to the age ,or sex.It is assumed that this enfant was Henry
the first son mentioned in the will of the elder Henri probated in 1720
.One of the biggest confusions regarding this is the possiblity of the
wife of the younger Henry. it is thought he married Jane Allen about 1725
.This is in part the reason why it is thought by some researchers that this
Henry was an infant, in 1699 because it was thought by some that he married
about 1725 to one Jane Allen. It was reported in different books that Jane
Allen was identified by her father William Allen in 1731 as Jane now Cavinis
,Actually on this will in 1731 Jane was identified as under age.Not until
the will was probated in 1744 is she identified as Jane Allen now Cavinis
This means that her age is considerably later,as is her date of marriage to
whomever. It has always been assumed that she married the son Henry, because
the wives of the two other sons Matthew and George are well known ,The new
date of birth for Jane and later marriage could signify that Henry also was
born much later and was born closer to 1715 or so and perhaps he is not the
enfant on the ship .Perhaps this explains why in 1708 the elder Henri
applies for the 200 acres of land for the importation of himself ,his
first wife Mary, his now wife Magdalene and Magdalene her daughter, This does
not include the 50 acres that should have been allowed for an infant Henry
,some researchers feel that the land claimed for first wife Mary is the land
claimed for the infant. That makes no sense why would he not apply for land
for the infant if he did indeed bring him in to the colony. tiny babies were
allowed land the same as adults. The following is a clip relating to the
will of William Allen explaining the age of Jane

There was a stipulation regarding those in servitude.I have often wondered
if this is why Henri did not file for land until 1708 ,is it because he was
in servitude??? there were some laws about recieving land also when a
persons period of servitude was over. I am also troubled by records
recently uncovered by myself naming one Henri Cabanis as a clothier of
Switzwerland.who in 1686 fled due to persecution ,himself also a Pierre
Cabanis .I believe that this is our Henri.I am a little troubled however by
his age if he were a merchant and a clothier in 1686 he was born in th
eearly 1750's and I don't know why he would have waited until say in 1699
if that is when ,Henry was born ,or later, in 1712 with Matthew and George
to start a family??? He should have had grown children . and starting on
Grandchildren when he arrived. Something is missing .AS for the two other
brothers Matthew and George they stayed in the Amelia Co area of Va.
Matthews will is dated 1789 probated 1790 .To the best of my knowledge
neither ever went to NC.Pat Perkins
