Dear June, I am a direct decendent of The Infant Henri De La Cabines (
parents were Henri and Marie De La Cabines, Huguenots escaping France to
England and landing in Manakin, Virginia in 1700 on the ship Mary and
Ann. That had to of made the infant Henri born either in 1700 or 1699.
There were two other brothers born after in the area of North Carolina. I
am missing one generation between Henri and our Henry born in 1815. When
they got off the boat their name was changed to Caviness . The first Nancy
he married was Nancy Roberts. Born in Arkansas. His second wife Nancy Reed
died in Mancos, CO. March,16,1894. There is a large Caviness plot in the
old cemetery of Mancos. One of Henry's children was my greatgrandfather
John Caviness born in Arkansas hooked up with the Nichols family of Georgia
and traveled by wagon train across to Rye, CO. John was the wagon master
and when they arrived in Rye,CO. married one of the Nichols girls, Maggie.
After having my grandmother MOllie they moved down to Walsenburg CO. I
don't have any info on Henry's other children other than John. John and
Maggie had 11 children, a few died after birth. The boys were known as the
wild riding Caviness boys. I hope this helps you. I'm really proud of my
Caviness family!!!!!!
Sincerely,
Barbara Roberts von Minden
