You have really hit on a topic that I really take offense at. to begin with there is
no doubt that One Joab is the son of Richard , William Caviness his son also , had a son
Joab .
William born in 1781 married Mary Vestal ,He was not the son of W ILLIAM CAVINESS
,AND A SARAH CARR CAVINESS,He was the son of Richard Caviness .William Caviness (if, that
is who was married to Sarah ?) was reportedly the son of Matthew could be ,makes sense,
don't know .one thing I do know, is that that #1 this william son of Matthew was
born in 1765 to young to be th e father of William born in 1781 # 2 Tradition states that
Richard born in about 1755 was indeed the father of William as well as Joab and John as
well as Cretia,Mary , and I think another daughter named Patsy #3 William and Joab are
found on the same area of the census that Richard lived in Chatham Co NC .#4 the children
of Sarah Caviness according to documents that I have personally seen as recently as
yesterday list the names and ages of the children of Sarah as only 4 .Benjamin age 15
Elizabeth ,Susanna ,and Mary(Polly ) was age 9 There is no mention of other older
children If there were older !
sons, why were they not found in records of her estate and why did they not sign off on
sale of her property at a much later date only the four named signed off .according to a
book on the Caviness family (which is wrong) 9 year old Mary was co executor along with
her uncle William Carr when Sarah died intestate . The author confused this 9 year old
again with the older daughter fo Richard also Mary but .fact was it was William Carr
and a Rolly Spinks (who was married to William Carrs sister ) who were executors not a
Mary at all . why William Carr was executor I don't know, but it is very doubtful
that he was her brother Or that Sarah was even a Carr .according to the autobiography of
the notorious Tory, David Fanning he married Sarah when she was 16 .He would certainly
know who he married , they later fled to no va Scotia where they died of old age .He
Fanning states that Sarah was the sister of his I believe he was a Lieutenant, William
Carr . I believe th!
at in the book it assumes that William must be her brother or why else would he be
executor of her estate . Carr researchers in an effort to explain the conflict between
the caviness book and the autobiography as perhaps it was a different Kerr family ,that
this Sarah was married to however ,the entire basis for the assumption that Sarah was a
CArr was that William Carr was executor of her estate, there fore her brother f so this
doesn't hold up either, there are several reasons perhaps why he was and executor
,perhaps Sarah owed him money .or perhaps there was a relationship between William
Carr's (Joseph ) father's wife Phoebe, no one knows who she was could she not just
as easily be the connection if one exists this needs looked at further if one wants to
find out why William may have been the executor of her estate .It also since the
assumption was made that Fredricks wife Elizabeth may have been a sister to Sarah and
therefore she is now listed on numerous si!
tes as Elizabeth Carr There was no effort to see if there even was an Elizabeth Carr or if
she indeed married Fredrick I swear you people will believe anything that you see in print
.enough of my soap box ., Yes Your Joab if he descends from William is the grandson of
Richard remember Richard also had a Joab I descend from William through John brother to
Joab . and dont believe any thing re this family on ancestory . it is based on the same
false information .In genealogy don't believe every thing you read and only half of
what you see .

Your William is the son of William Caviness and Sarah Carr. William goes back
through-- Mathew, Henry, Henri, Pierre then Andre Cabanis. Look on
Ancestry.com.
Thanks
