looking for information re Richard Caviness born abt 1754 believed to be a brother to
Matthew , Fredrick , and probably others reportedly according to published geneology
sources , He is the son of Henry Cavines and Jane Allen , the only source for this is the
fact that a William Allen left an heir Jane ,now cavinis .this was in 1731 The author was
going by the limeted information available at the time and assumes that since the Henri
Cabanis had three known sons and the families of two were well documented( Matthew and
George )the assumption was made that the third son Henri who was an infant immigrant in
1699 ,that he must have been the one to marry,Jane and father most if not all of the
Caviness descendants , (spelled with a V), now we know that there are many problems with
this there is a Henri Cabiness that claimed his land of two hundred acres for the
importation of himself and his first wife Mary and magdalene his second wife ,and
magdaline her daughtert thi!
s is in 1708. Who is this ? If it is the infant immigrant that migrated in 1699 how old
would he have been ? if it was the elder Henri his wife went from ?Marie to Magdalene to
Mary from the time he immigrated to his death in 1726 actually there is no reason to
believe she was ever named Marie this was guess work done because with Henri's will
names wife Mary and since they were French heugonauts she must have been named Marie , she
could have been Magdalene from the start ,plus why is there no mention of his son ,the
infant Henry on this land application ? I also wonder how the determination that the
infant that arrived was even a boy . and then who is the William Caviness that married
Elizabeth Phipps in Bath NC in 1734 , I do not believe that all Caviness that can't be
attributed to a specific Caviness are attributable to Isaac Chabanas if any can , one of
the family attributed to This Isaac is found on a latter list of Irish immigrants .also
there is found a Henry!
Cabiness with two sons Jack and another that would be born in about 1714 does any one
have any ideas on this early family history or done any further searching for this family
. hope to get some life on this list maybe kick up some ancestors Patricia Caviness
