recently while delving into the genealogy of some of the Huguenots that
arrived about the same time as Henri Cabanis . I found some interesting
items from the Santee settlement of S.C as many recal Henri was a Huguenot
, and the primary leader was a Claude Phillipe de Richbourg , this man
moved the Huguenot colony to Jamestown SC he and wife Anna Chastain they
had six children Charles ,Rene, John , James ,Claudius, and Elizabeth the
interesting thing I found in the article on Claudes descendants is the
witnessess for a couple of documents for the family in SC the will fo
Charles dated 4-10-1736 with exec brother Rene , witness St Cabanas ,
Jos.de St Julien ,Rene Ravenel Jr . the interesting item is the name
Cabanas .
the next item is The will of Rene Richbourg of Craven Co SC dated
11 -27-1740 . this has as one of the witnesses Es.Cavanis anong others . It
is interesting that to my knowledge no one has followed up with the
Huguenots or tried to find other links to our ancestors there . It seems
as if there are either other Caviness still with the Huguenots that have
not been researched ,or This is one and the same as Henry Caviness of Va
and NC either way it is interesting . and makes one ask who is this ???? I
am dissapointed that no first names are mentioned in the article . which was
compiled by a Jean Grunewald , the article can be found on the internet just
by typing in Claudes name . patricia perkins
