I don't know if this helps anyone it helped me as number 2 under 1796
tithe list note William Caviness son of Henry I had in my Caviness book as
William son of William later down in the list I note that there is a
William son of William it sounds more to me that this is William son of
William son of Henry if any one else reads this different please let me
know as this tithe list is the basis in the Caviness book by Alloa for
attributing all of William 1781 descendants to William Caviness son of
Matthew a finding I strongly disagree with as tradition always stated
that William 1781 was the son of Richard . If you descend from This William
(married Mary Vestal ) I would bet that you don't descend from William and
Sarah Carr Patricia Caviness Perkins

Subject: Tithe list for 1797 Mecklenburg, VA
Hi Pat,
I stopped by my local FHC to look at the film they have there for
Mecklenburg, VA tithes.
Here is what I found:
1796 Joseph B. Clausel District
Matthew Cavines (exempt) - - - 3
William Cavines (son of Henry) 1 - - 1
William Cavines (estate) - - - 3
Henry Cavines, Harry B. 1 1 - 2
William Cavines 1 - - 1
George Cavines 1 - - 1
John Cavines 1 - - 3
1797 Joseph B. Clausel District
Matthew Caviness (exempt)
George his son, 16 1 - - 2
William Caviness (son of Henry) 1 - - 1
Sarah Caviness - - - 2
[THIS LOOKS LIKE SHE IS THE WIDOW OF WILLIAM LISTED ABOVE, WHOSE ESTATE
WAS
TITHED]
Henry Caviness, Harry over 16 1 1 - 2
[HARRY IS MOST LIKELY HENRY'S SON]
William Caviness (son of William) 1 - - 1
George Caviness 1 - - 1
John Caviness 1 - - 2
John Caviness 1 - - -
Matthew Caviness, Jr. 1 - - 1
Henry Caviness Jr. 1 - - 1
I only had time to look at 1798, 1799 in addition to the above and Matthew
Caviness [Sr.] is gone. There was no estate that was tithed at that time
either. So, maybe he left the area? Sarah is also gone from the list
those
years.
Hope this helps.
