Hello, my name is James Cavin. I live in California. I am a descendant of Joseph H.
Cavin and Polly Keele, Joseph's 2nd wife.
The Burdette-Cavin cemetery is on a dairy farm, owned by Rex James, near Tin Town.
In the spring of 2008, one of Rex's hired hands did a very good job of clearing the
area. But, when I visited that June, it was raining cats and dogs. Therefore, I was not
able to take any photo's.
When I returned in June of 2009, it was becoming over grown again. Rex has tried to
hire persons to keep up the area, but everyone gets creeped out and claims to "hear
things." They leave after just a couple of hours and don't even take the pay
they are owed.
The other problem is when they had the big wind storm in early 2009. Branches fell from
trees, knocking over and breaking some of the stones. The tall stone of Patience D. was
also on the ground. I believe someone had left the gate open and the cows wondered in. I
tried to lift it, but it must weigh several hundred pounds.
Rex has contacted the Burdette brothers, but they have no interest in caring for the
area.
I am now retired and can schedule pretty much any time in the year to help clean the
place. My only problem is I have a bad back. So, someone would have to help do any heavy
lifting. I have been to the Springfield area three times now, (2007, 2008 and 2009), in
June for a McNabb family reunion. I have cousins I can stay with.
Let me know if anyone would like to organize a clean up and if we can find anyone to do
regular maintenance. Or, I'm willing to pay for a landscaper to do the work.
