from History of Jackson Co., Western Historical Co., Chicago, 1879, p. 758 --
"Sheperd Hazzard Caven was born in Greensburg, Westmoreland Co., PA, Nov. 29 1814, to
John Caven and Elizabeth Neyman (mt note to you -- her pedigree on
Ancestry.com goes
"waaaay" back). He married Pheobe Ripperton of Adams Co., PA; in 1851 they moved
to Whiteside Co., IL, and in the autum of 1851, they moved to Iowa and stettled in Jackson
Co, IA.
In 1864, he went to Montana and followed mining and had fair success near Virginia City,
Helena, Blackfoot City, and Flint Creek; from there he went to British Columbia in 1867,
where he also followed mining at Fisherville and Prairie Creek; in 1871 he returned to
Jackson Co; he is the present assessor, an office he has held a number of years; was
Justice of the Peace, and is School Director and Treas., offices he has held several
years.
In politics, he is a Democrat, owns 82 acres of land."
From family history I have: SHEP AND PHOEBE'S CHILDREN were:
Decatur (infant), Jehile (infant), Shep, Charlie, Ada, Helen, Katie, Louisa, Perry, Kezia,
and Cora.
SHEP'S BROTHERS/SISTERS: Mary, Eliza, Heziah (novelist), Asalhil, John, William
(infant), Jehile (violinisht), Joseph, Dacasui, and Cyrus. (The spellings are as given to
me years ago.)
Perry Hazzard Caven (son of Shep) was my gr. gr. grandfather.

Just now finding info for Jehile (Jeheil, Jehiel sp?) and some of the siblings. I have a
two-page info. sheet on him;could email??? How are you related to Jeheil?
Ancestry.com has
info on Jeheil plus picture; died in 1888 in Taylor Nevada. Would like to share info with
you!!!!
