I have recently come across a CAVIN family in Loudoun Co., VA and am looking
to find out more about them. There are several listed in the 1782 Loudoun
Co Census. Patrick, John, Joseph, Thomas, Edward, and two Williams.
According to the the will of John Cavin (written on 11-27-1787 and proved in
Jan. 1793), John had three sons, William, Joseph, and Robert (decreased).
Robert had two sons William and John. There was at least one daughter
because of the mention of a grand-daughter, Elizabeth Wilson. There are
legatees listed as Elener Nixon (nee Wilson), James and Alex Wilson. The
executor was son, William Cavin. A sister, Elizabeth Burton was listed.
Other documents listed Patrick Cavin as an executor for the Jacob Coutzman
and Matthew Campbell estates in 1780 and 1782, respectively. William was
listed as an appraiser for the ext. of Giles Stephens in 1774, and as an
executor for James Richardson's estate in 1779. Patrick was listed as an
appraiser for the Richardson estate, also. John Cavin was listed as an
appraiser for the estates of William Griffin and John Bell in 1777.
Marriages listed are : Robert Cavin and Ann Todd on 12-15-1764 and Patrick
Cavan and Sarah Baker in 1798.
Apparently Robert and Ann Todd Cavin were the parents of William and John,
grandsons of John Cavin.
Can anyone shed any further light on these Cavins? Is William Cavin, the
grandson of John Cavin, the same person who married Margaret Skelton in
Caroline Co., VA and moved to Hawkins Co., TN about 1798?
