Am hoping to may contact with others who have CAVIN ancestors from
Northeastern Alabama, especially Jackson or DeKalb Counties. I have traced
not only CAVINs, but also PRESSLEY and WALLACE ancestors to this area.
My gg-grandfather Robert S. CAVIN (b. ca 1821 in AL) is shown in both 1840 and
1860 Federal Census' for Jackson County, AL. His wife was Martha (?) in 1860
census, but, although no marriage record has yet turned up, I believe Martha's
maiden name to be MATHIS due to similarities in many family given names.
Robert and Martha CAVIN had several children some of whom are as follows:
Luvina (b. 1840 in AL), Malinda Jane (b. 1842 in AL, m. Jesse Owens), John
(b. 1853 in TX), James Wesley (b. 1856 in AL, m. Purlina A. PRESSLEY in
Jackson Co., AL on 1874), Robert (b. 1861 in AL), Martha A. (b. 1863 in AL),
and Louisa (b. 1865 in AL). James Wesley CAVIN and wife Purlina A. PRESSLEY
are my g-grandparents who eventually settled in Cleveland Co., OK after living
for a time in Eastland Co., TX.
Also shown in 1840 Federal Census for Jackson Co., AL is Aninias (Ananias?)
CAVIN (b. ca. 1800). Would like to know more of Aninias. (Is he Robert
CAVIN's father?)
Thanks for any help.
