Dear Cavins:
Our Mary (Cavin) Christian might possibly be the daughter of John and Anna
Cavin (b. 1782). Anna Cavin does live right next door to the widowed Mary
(Cavin) Christian on the 1850 census. Donna Hoaglin writes, "There is an Anna
in 1840 [census], also Anna aged 68, in 1850, b. VA (b. 1782) who could be
the mother of your Mary and a sister of my John."
Dr. Earl Skelton writes, "I would not be surprised if Mary Cavin (1807-1862),
who married Lewis Christian and Reuben Skelton, connects to the husband of
Margaret Skelton (1757-aft. 1840)." (RIN 791).
Mrs. Walter Powell, descendant of William Cavin (1820-1864) through his son
Lewis says Mary (RIN 84) is likely the sister of John (1808-aft 1880) and
Ananias (12 Feb 1814--9 Jul 1897 [to Washington Co. Arkansas]) and a half
sister to the above mentioned William through a second wife, Sally Christian
Cavin.
Sue McKinnon writes: "1807c: Alexander Cavin families of Pendleton SC went to
TN. Before Hawkins Co TN, this line of Cavins came from Spartanburg SC.
Cavins family also in Iredell Co NC and Loudon Co VA and then Westmoreland Co
PA. As Scot-Irish they followed the Shenandoah Valley southward to
Cumberland Gap." She then lists indented under this Alexander Cavin
paragraph William Cavin b 1809 TN; Thomas b 1811 TN; Moses b 1819 TN And
then she has another grouping under Alexander Cavin of Annanias Cavin b. 1814
Dec 2 Hawkins Co. TN d 1897 Jul 9 Washington Co ARK m Mary Polly Jones b 1820
Hawkins co TN. SEE FAMILIES OF HAWKINS CO TN 1786-1994 (p. 268?). (cf. Dist.
Crossr. April 1985, p. 54)
Don't know if any of this makes any sense to anyone, but at least it gives
the Cavin's list something to read.
