Yesterday someone tried to send a chain letter to this list. She
was not subscribed and the message bounced. It had to do with
cancer donations and seemed to be something others might think of
passing. I would like to inform all my list member that it is a
hoax; see
http://www.cancer.org/chain.html
I am sending this letter as a reminder to those of you who might
receive a chain letter and/or virus warning these messages
should never be sent to a list address.
Some of you are new to list and may be unaware these messages
have been floating around for a very long time.
Virus warnings, FCC threats, all of these are hoax. Even if
they were real they have no place on a surname list.
PLEASE DO NOT SEND ANYTHING TO THIS LIST AND ASK IT BE FORWARDED
ON TO OTHERS.
While it seems to be only one message that can be easily deleted,
when others pass it along it becomes a massive amount of material
and is hard on the Rootsweb system.

Because those off topic posts tend to resonate across
all the lists, and it really beats up the servers. Karen and I
just
spent $5,200 on memory upgrades largely necessitated by the
recent FCC hoax postings
