Dia Dhuit! (Hello!) Hello-o-o-o-o! Is anybody home??
Yea .... it's been pretty quiet on the CAVIN-List in general as of
late. I need to "stir things up" a bit and try to get some traffic
going here. I tell you .... I have been so busy with work this past
year, that haven't had time to do much else. At the chemical plant
where I work as an Engineer, we have almost finished a merger with
another chemical manufacturer that started back in July of '97. Phew!
I'm about mergered out!
My folks were over in Co. Cavan, Ireland this past October and they
found
nothing on any CAVINs there. Since I couldn't go to Ireland with them,
they
brought a wee piece of Ireland back to me .... a medicine bottle filled
with Irish soil, so now I have some of the Ol' Sod with me always.
That's the bad news.
Now the good news. All along, I had been lead to believe that my
3rdGGF, ROBERT CAVIN, had immigrated to NC from Co. Cavan, Ireland,
via Bucks Co., PA. I have recently received unconfirmed information
that he
was actually born in the US and that his GreatGrandFather, Rev. SAMUEL
CAVIN, immigrated to the US (Philadelphia, PA) from Belfast, Ireland,
11/16/1737. This information about Rev. SAMUEL CAVIN is well
documented. I won't bore you with the sources right now, but they are
available if you you want them.
Subsequent to this discovery, I had correspondence, via eMail, with a
gentleman out in Texas concerning our CAVINs in NC. The following is a
thumbnail sketch of how I see his information linking my ROBERT CAVIN to
Rev. SAMUEL CAVIN. All of the information above the dashed line
(--------) is about Rev. SAMUEL CAVIN and is documented. All of the
information below the dashed line (--------) was received from the
Gentleman in Texas, but I have not been able to confirm any of it as of
yet, although it looks very promising and in all probability is correct.
1. Rev. SAMUEL CAVIN - immigrated to the US (Phil., PA) 11/16/1737.
As a Presbyterian Minister, he spent most of his time at various
churches in this general area. Near the end of his career, he
spent
itinerating in Virginia and other vacancies. He died 11/09/1740,
at
the age of 49 and is buried at the Silver Springs Cemetery near
Harrisburg, PA. Supposedly, his descendants moved into Virginia
and Iredell Co., NC, and then into East Tennessee's Hawkins Co.

Sorry for boring you to tears with all of this, but I'm just trying to
let you
all know that Cavan Co. is a dead end for me, and that Belfast is
the place instead. I just hope that I'm not trying to force the pieces
of this puzzle to fit. How about ya'll with CAVIN Roots, particularly
in PA,
VA, NC, TN, taking a look at the above and let's see if we might come
up with something. I think that the trail is now hot. Let me know what
you think.
Well, gotta run for now. All my wishes to you and your Families for a
Safe and Happy New Year.
