My 2nd great grandfather, Harmon Joseph married Phalby C. Cavin on
January 31, 1865 in Wilkinson County, MS. Their children were Alfred
Edward (my great grandfather) 1865-1923, Benjamin b. 1874, William b.
1877, Percy b. 1880 and Mary b. 1884. The 1880 census for Wilkinson
County, MS listed Phalby being born in Mississipi, father from MS
also, but mother was from SC.
Any info that you might have on Phalby or relatives would be
appreciated.
Thanks,
Jeff

Howdy, again, Jeff!
"da list" is much like the CAVIN GenForum that you posted your
message
to
Carolyn Switzer on, concerning your grandfather, Alfred Douglas
Joseph, who
married Nettie Cavin in Wilkinson County, MS. These Lists are
referred to
as Genealogy Mail Lists, where those folks who might be interested
in a
particular Surname or names, State or County, etc., can post
messages or
queries via eMail to that list in hopes that other members of the
List might
recognize an ancestor of theirs. It's for sharing of information
concerning
that list ... in our case, the CAVIN Family Surname, or in your
other case,
sharing the ASHLEY Family Surname.
If you haven't already, I'd suggest that you visit the RootsWeb
Genealogy
site. Just click on the link shown below to go to their Web Site:
http://www.rootsweb.com/
Or you can click on this link to go straight to their Web Page
concerning
Mail Lists:
http://www.rootsweb.com/~maillist/
The CAVIN List is somewhat small right now (about 55 subscribers)
and hasn't
had a whole lot of traffic lately. Why don't you post the
information that
you have on your CAVINs to the List and see if you get any
responses.
Sometimes, people will sit back and read the messages that are posted
without participating. These folks are fondly called "lurkers".
They
just
lurk in the background without posting anything. I'm going to
repost my
CAVIN Family information shortly, so you should be receiving an
eMail from
the List showing it. Hope this helps, and wecome to the CAVIN List.
