There was a Thomas Cavin in Amite County
1850 Amite county, MS
Thomas Cavin 39 merchant $2000 Tenn
Sarah S. 24 LA
Thomas E. 3 male Amite
Robert E 1 male Amite
At age 39, this is not the father Thomas. There will be more on this line
later. I do not know if he was the missing brother. Certainly his age
would put him between John and William, making him the second oldest son.
That does not prove that he was indeed the Thomas that disappeared from
Wilkinson county. It was said this Thomas left after the civil war, but he
doesn’t seem to be in the 1850 census.
from Sidney Johnson:
Tom Cavin fought for the Union. His brothers suggested he leave the county
or else.
He married Matilda Thompson from the edge of Amite co. They may have
married in Clinton, La. She grew up 3 miles from Gloster.. Her daddy’s
will was in Amite co. in 1884.

I found notes I had made on the Amite county, MS Cavins, and want to pass
them along. This Thomas Cavin may or may not be related to the Cavins in
adjoining Wilkinson co., MS.
A letter written by a descendant of John Cavin of Wilkinson county, MS,
states there were four [4] brothers. The oldest, John, born in SC and the
other three b. in Tenn.
The three younger brothers were, William, Thomas and Moses. William and
Moses remained in Wilkinson county. Could the Thomas in adjoining Amite co.
be the lost brother?
